Syllabus: Provide students with means to keep updated and develop a critical spirit in analyzing recent works described in literature through studies of scientific papers or reviews, group discussions and seminars about themes regarding the field of concentration. It will be developed in two strands: - Advanced topics in biosciences and health lectured by research professors and students in the different lines of research involved in the graduate program and out of it, emphasizing the theoretical-methodological aspects of their work. Presentation of the thesis plans and advancements in research produced by master’s degree students during the period of studies.

Microbial bioprospecting applied to health

Syllabus: The discipline is developed through a theoretical and practical approach aiming at microbiological methods for the recovery of the microbial community in environmental samples through methods which depend on the cultivation and construction of Metagenomic libraries (cultivation independent methods) with the objective of searching for pharmacologically active compounds from microbial origins and their application to human and veterinary medicine, such as antibiotics, antitumor compounds, anti-inflammatory drugs and others. Bioessays for the activity detection. Microbial preservation and collections. Using microorganisms and bioreactors.
