The stricto sensu Graduate Program in Biosciences (PPG-BC) of the Federal University of Latin American Integration was approved with a grade 4 on October 21st 2016, during the 166th meeting of the Higher Education Technical-Scientific Council (CTC-ES) which happened from September 26th to 30th 2016.
On July 4th 2017, PPG-BC was approved by the National Council for Education (CNE) and ratified by the Ministry of Education (MEC) on February 20th 2018. Its master’s degree activities began on August 7th 2017.
It is the only graduate course in the field of Biological Sciences II (CB-II) in the Western region of the state of Paraná, where the city of Foz do Iguaçu is located, and it is also unique concerning the adjacent regions. The nearest graduate program in the field is located more than 400km away. Its influence and attractiveness is stronger in the Western, Southwestern, Central and Northwestern regions of the state of Paraná, Eastern Paraguay and Northeastern region of Argentina.
PPG-BC develops education and research activities in the fields of Biological Sciences applied to Health and Biotechnology, because it aims at creating professionals in this field of knowledge. The program is international and it aims at academically and scientifically integrating students from Brazil and from several countries of Latin America and the Caribbean. The teaching staff of the program is composed by researchers who are young and have diverse education backgrounds in various areas of the Biological Sciences, such as Biomedicine, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biological Sciences, Nursing, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Nutrition, Odontology, Psychology, Collective Health and Occupational Therapy and similar areas, with experience in teaching and research activities in UNILA in collaboration with different education and research institutions.
The primary aim of the Program is to create professionals who have a Master’s Degree and a solid and broad educational background in Biosciences and who are able to work in teaching, in industry, in research and in the development of products and services, at scientific research and regulatory agencies of the fields of health/biology, both national and internationally, in accordance with UNILA’s vocation.
