1) Social Movements, Cultural Flows and Identities

 This line of research gathers researches about social and cultural formations, thinking about the symbolic exchanges involved in the configuration of identities and its political and social consequences which are observable so far. It includes studies about the representations and imaginaries, territorialities, historical formation of ethnic-cultural identities, class identities and gender identities. It also includes the study and problematization of social and political mobilizations which are organized from multiple identities, its historical actuations and contemporary perspectives, connected to deeply transnational issues and themes, such as human rights, migrations and debates about historical reparations. Ethnic, regional, national, linguistic, religious, classist, political and social identities are the focus of studies here, including their expressions through a series of manifestations such as food, music, clothing, press, conceptions of medicine, body practices and in aspects of the daily life, such as family.

2) Modernities, Institutions and Languages

This line of research is intended to study the experience of Latin American Modernity in several social groups and subjects, as well as its expression in institutions, particularly Nation States, and its affirmation in different means of language (art, patrimony, photography, cinema, literature, historiography). Here we try to problematize units such as nation or religion, and concepts such as modern, in essence. The (conflictive) construction of narratives is studied, and also its dissemination throughout Latin America societies and ways of resisting them. Based on multiple objects, this line of research offers a perspective of studying dialogues, conflicts and negotiations between the cultures that compose Latin America. The study of concepts by means of which the historical experience of Modernity has been articulated, the ways of thinking, historically built symbolic representations and ideas, confronted visual and narrative codes in Latin American multiculturality will be privileged themes in this line of research.
